This privacy policy describes how the Japan IC Card Reader Android app (the “App”, package name ar.jg.iccard) handles your data.

Summary

• The App reads data from your transit IC card using your phone’s NFC reader.
• The App does not store, transmit, or share any of that card data with us, or with anyone else.
• The App displays advertisements through Google AdMob, which collects standard advertising data on its own behalf.
• The App does not require an account, login, or any personal information.

1. What the App reads

When you tap a Japanese transit IC card (Suica, ICOCA, PASMO, Kitaca, TOICA, manaca, SUGOCA, nimoca, hayakaken, PiTaPa) against the back of your phone, the App reads:

• The card’s manufacturer ID (IDm).
• Current balance.
• The most recent transaction history (~20 entries) and tap log (~3 entries) stored on the card.

This data is read directly from the card’s chip into the App’s memory and shown on screen. It is never written to disk, never sent over the network, and never shared with us. When you close the App, the data is discarded.

2. Permissions

• NFC — required to read your IC card. Used only while the App is open.
• Internet — required only by the advertising SDK (see below). The card-reading features do not use the network.

3. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App displays a banner advertisement provided by Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK collects, on its own behalf, data such as:

• Your Android Advertising ID.
• Approximate location derived from your IP address.
• Device information (model, OS version, language).
• Interactions with the advertisement.

We do not have access to this data. Google uses it to personalize and measure advertisements.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the App will show a Google-provided consent form on first launch where you can accept or reject personalized advertising and choose which advertising partners can process your data. You can change your choices later in your device’s settings.

You can reset or disable your Android Advertising ID in Settings → Privacy → Ads on your device.

4. Children

The App is rated for general audiences. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.

5. Data retention and deletion

Because the App stores no personal data on its servers (we have no servers), there is nothing to retain or delete on our side. To remove the App and any local data it has cached on your device, uninstall the App from your phone’s app settings.

6. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, note the changes here. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
